Below is a piece I wrote for my gold arts award, I need to share it to gain some feedback. If you could comment with some that would be great, Thank you!
Mental illness and the arts
For a long time there has been a controversy between mental illness and creativity. There is a range of well-known artists who have some kind of mental illness. However, there is no scientific evidence to prove that there is a direct connection between two.
Art therapy in some cases can be really benefit people with mental illness, especially people who are unable to express themselves through words. However, it is not as always as effective as other treatments such as medication and other therapies. Art is a great way for people who have a mental illness to focus on something other than the problems they may be facing however, this does not deal with the cause of the issue.
From my own experiences I have found photography has helped me to deal with my anxiety, giving me a new confidence and enabling me to express myself. In conclusion, though there may not be a direct link between mental illness and being creative, it is definitely something that can be beneficial to those with a mental illness.
